'The Time Lords had invented the black holes, and they had built a fail-safe to stop them. So, when the Doctor found the still small and forming black hole hovering right above Earth, he knew what he had to do.
"It'll be okay." he said to the TARDIS, having no one else around to say it to "I'm a Time Lord, it's what I do."
Without another word, he flung himself into the vastness of space, the TARDIS providing him the air he needed. The black hole began to pull him in, but he bid his time, counting down. He would have to time this just right.
"And, now."
As he let the words escape his lips, he let the energy escape his body; a highly-focused release of the vortex particles that had built up in him over years of travel. The black hole pulled in the bright blue light, pulling itself closed as time itself flowed into it. Caught in the middle of the whole thing, the Doctor's already amazing senses were even more attuned to the things around him thanks to the vortex particles.
Floating above the Earth, for one brief moment, he could sense every single life on the planet below. He heard every voice, felt every thought, and knew every love and hate and passion of every human on the spinning blue orb he had just saved. It was terrifying, and beautiful, and the most wonderful thing in the universe.
"This," he whispered, as if telling a secret to the whole planet at once, "is why I'll never stop saving you."
